What's included
15 live meetings
11 hrs 15 mins in-class hoursHomework
1 hour per week. A list of possible assignments will be given. Students will be given the option to pursue whichever assignments they like. Completing assignments will give them achievements and xp (experience points) that will help them to level up in their quest to be the Ultimate Cat Expert!Assessment
Students will be assessed using XP or experience points. As their XP grows, they will level up at the “safari”. Individual assignments will be corrected, but the emphasis will be placed on effort and information rather than perfection.Class Experience
Each class we will hear the call of the wild and travel to a new location to learn about a lesser known wild cat. Together we will study their habitat, diet and what makes them special. In the process, students will gain experience points and battle it out in a test of wits to become the ultimate Cat Expert! This class will be designed in a very interactive video game style. Students will be assessed on XP or experience points. As their XP grows, they will level up at the “safari”. Students will gain XP through class participation, assignments, answering questions, helping others and pop quiz style “battles” where they will go head to head to test their knowledge. Lesson 1: Introduction & Iberian Lynx (Spain & Portugal) Lesson 2: Fishing Cat (South & SE Asia) Lesson 3: Jungle Cat (Asia) Lesson 4: Ocelot (North and South America) Lesson 5: Canadian Lynx & Bobcat (North America) Lesson 6: Golden Cats (African & Asian Catopuma) Lesson 7: Andean Mountain Cat (South America) Lesson 8: Marbled Cat (Asia - South East Asia) Lesson 9: Geoffroy’s Cat (South America) Lesson 10: Jaguarundi (North & South America) Lesson 11: Chinese Desert Cat (Western China) Lesson 12: Wild Cat (African, European, Asiatic, & Scottish) Lesson 13: Iriomote Cat (Japan) Lesson 14: Pampas Cat (South America) Lesson 15: Wrap up & Bay Cat (Borneo) I think that excitement about learning is contagious, and that students can learn as much from each other as they can the teacher. Students will be given opportunities to form "adventure parties" to solve problems and gain achievements. What work they do individually outside of class will be also be shared and new information presented in the beginning of every class. With the gaming model, self-directed learning outside of class is optional, but fun. Moreover it taps into children's competitive nature which propels them to learn far beyond mandated tasks.

- Discuss the setting and diet found where these wild cats live.
