To become strong writers, we need to imagine that our characters are real people, no matter if they are human, animal, alien, or trolls. Every class we will use an image/Memoji to inspire character development. The teacher will write a few questions that the students will answer using their imagination. Everyone will work on the same character, but they will all be unique because every student brings their imagination and thoughts to their character. We will cover things like name, age, professions, fears, things they love, favorite foods, family and friends, personality, etc. Every 50-minute class will be divided like this: I will share the image of the character and write a few questions that students will work on. Then they will present their ideas and I will write a few more questions to develop the character. Everyone shares their ideas again. I as the teacher will help them if they get stuck or need helped. If we have time in the end the student will write a short story or “chapter” about their characters. The students don't need any previous character development knowledge or skills but need to be able to write down the details about their characters and be willing to share their work in class. Each week will be a different character and the student doesn't need to participate in all the classes but can join any weekly class they like.
Learning Goals
The students will learn how to develop characters and describe their personalities and traits. The student will also practice presenting in class.

My teaching philosophy is deeply rooted in personal experience. Growing up with dysgraphia, I encountered teachers who left me feeling uncomfortable, insecure, and inadequate. Those experiences shaped my commitment to creating an environment where every student feels welcome, confident, and supported. With a master’s degree in education and a double major in social and political science and world religions, my professional background equips me to guide students through diverse and complex topics. Having taught across various age groups in Sweden and now the USA, I also incorporate the principles of student democracy, encouraging students to take an active role in shaping their own learning journey.
On a personal note, I’ve always had a vivid imagination—perhaps a result of my Nordic upbringing. As a child in Sweden, I was fascinated yet terrified by the stories of fairies that pervade our folklore. Now, as an immigrant in the USA, I weave that sense of wonder into my own creative works, which have earned me awards for poetry and short stories.Reviews
