Class Experience

In this one-time class students will learn about writing numbers in word form, expanded form and standard form. We look at numbers through the millions place. The class will begin with students answering riddles about numbers to assess the ability level in the room. We will then use place value charts to write standard form of numbers. Using manipulatives teacher will demonstrate the value of the digits and how to write numbers in expanded form. Expanded form will be demonstrated with parentheses and exponents to reach 3-5th grade math standards. Teacher will instruct students using an I do, We do, You do teaching style. Students are encouraged to participate in discussions and justify responses to questions. We will end the class by playing a game where students will need to use place value to determine who has the greater number. They will need to give answers for the game using expanded and standard form.

Learning Goals

Students will understand the different ways to write numbers in word form, expanded form and standard form.

Now offering private tutoring in all subjects through 1 on 1 30 minute ongoing sessions. Also available for one time homework help just send me a message to get it set up. 23 Years! I have been teaching 3-5th grade for 21 years and 8th grade science for the last three years. I am passionate about connecting the real world to what students are learning in the classroom with their interests and hobbies. I teach classes that reinforce skills in math through games and discussions, book clubs for those lovers of books, hands on inquiry lessons in science and real world experiences. Math games focus on fractions, multiplication and division. Book clubs will involve outside reading, in depth discussions during our class time, and hands on projects to make connections. Real world experience classes focusing on creating a budget for a vacation, and creating schedules to allow for time management. I am the teacher that relates your learning to your life. My three top interests outside of school are Disney, long distance running and Harry Potter. I have been long distance running for 15 years and of course bringing my two interests together I run at Disney! I can't wait to get to know your student.
