In this ongoing 45-minute class, students will collaborate and use their research skills to ask strategic yes or no questions and uncover the mystery location where I am "traveling" to.

Here's how the class works:

1. At the beginning of each class, I will provide a brief introduction on how the class works, and then I will "transport" to a secret location somewhere on Earth.

2. Students will have 20 minutes to work together to ask yes or no questions and research the answers to narrow down the location. They will need to think critically and creatively to piece together the clues. See "parental guidance" for more information about how students might use a search engine to research the possible answer.

3. Whether the students successfully guess the location or not, I will reveal the mystery place during the last 20 minutes of the class.

4. In the remaining time, I will share fun facts, images, videos, and lead a discussion about the location, its culture, its history, and whether the students would like to travel there in person.

Each class meeting will feature a different location/landmark, ensuring a new and engaging experience every time!

Week of May 14-20: Mystery Location #1
Week of May 21-27: Mystery Location #2
Week of May 28-June 3: Mystery Location #3
Week of June 4-10: Mystery Location #4
Week of June 11-17: Mystery Location #5.... and so on.

Parental Guidance
Students may need to use online search engines/maps to research their guesses. For example, based on my "yes/no" responses, students might search "natural landmarks in Italy" or "Most famous bridges in America" in order to help them guess my location. KidzSearch has been provided as an external resource, though families are encouraged to use whichever search engine they feel most comfortable with. You can read about KidzSearch's privacy policy and COPPA-compliance here: https://www.kidzsearch.com/privacy.html Any images or videos used to educate us about the locations discussed in class will be screen-shared by me. Some of the locations featured in this course may contain references to mature subject matter, such as murder, prejudice, hauntings, etc. While no graphic images are displayed, please consider your comfort level with your child learning about contemporary and historical places with scary or controversial histories.

Hi, I'm Mr. Steven, and I'm an English Language Arts teacher with a passion for project-based learning and pop culture themes. My classes range from academic to social, with the goal of helping students develop important academic/life skills and explore their interests.

With an Associate's in Communication, a Bachelor's in Creative Writing, and a Master's in Education, I bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to my teaching. Over the years, I’ve taught language arts to students from elementary to high school. I’ve taught both in public schools and virtually, and I've worked with classic and contemporary texts, including “The Crucible” and "Flying Lessons & Other Stories."

My philosophy behind teaching is simple: I believe that learning should be engaging, relevant, and fun. The classroom, whether it is physical or virtual, should be interactive and allow students to express themselves. Assessments should center around the individual student and seek signs of their growth rather than comparisons to others.
