Class Experience

Where in Antarctica can you go whale watching, find an elephant seal, or cross the infamous Drake Passage? Join me on an interactive scavenger hunt around Antarctica! As the final installment of my "Where in the World" class series, young learners will now have the opportunity to explore Antarctica while searching for different continent specific items. During our virtual field trip, learners will go on a make believe cruise to Antarctica. We will begin by flying to South America and boarding our ship in Ushuaia, Argentina. We will then set sail for Antarctica! Through a multimedia presentation that includes maps, photos, and videos we will experience:

-Crossing the infamous Drake Passage and watching the albatross
-A whale watching excursion to find orcas, humpback, and blue whales
          -Camping outside in the snow
-Discovering multiple penguin species like Emperor, Adelie, and Chinstrap Penguins
-A zodiac cruise around Deception Island
-Finding the Elephant Seals on Elephant Island

Our journey around Antarctica will be very interactive and full of movement and fun to keep young children engaged!

Each learner will be provided with two printable PDF files prior to the class. The first handout will contain six pictures of items to look for as we explore Antarctica. Children will be encouraged to keep their eyes open for the items on the printable, and they can circle each item as we find it. The second file will contain a template for children to complete their own travel scrapbook of their trip to Antarctica. They can color in the pictures of the items they found on the scavenger hunt, cut them out, and then glue them in the correct frames on the template. They can then share with their family and friends all the amazing things they saw in Antarctica!

Let’s go on an adventure! I can’t wait to explore Antarctica with your tiny traveler!
Learning Goals
Students will become familiar with Antarctica and learn about six different animals/activities that you can experience on a cruise to Antarctica. They will also learn how to find Antarctica on a map or globe.
