In this class, you'll have the chance to pick your own ancient Egyptian name and learn what it means.

Class experience

US Grade 9 - 12
Follows Teacher-Created Curriculum
Students will learn several aspects of social status in ancient Egypt by studying names. They will understand the magical importance names held for the ancient Egyptians. Finally, they will get a real kick out of picking their own Egyptian name - whether royal or common - and see what it looks like in hieroglyphics.
I hold a Certificate of Museum Studies from Harvard University and, in June, I will receive my Diploma in Egyptology for a one-year program from Oxford College in England. And I’ve been to Egypt three times on personalized, educational tours.

As a certified school substitute, I make the day more enjoyable - if it works out - by bringing an ancient Egyptian object into the classroom, whether I'm teaching language arts, social studies, science, consumer economics, art or even Native American studies.

I've been captivated by ancient Egypt since I was 10 years old. And I feel it's my destiny to share my enthusiasm for and expertise on this beautiful and brilliant 5000-year-old civilization with all of you. I hope to see you soon for a class. I think you'll agree that The Egyptian Room is an attractive, fun and inspiring place to learn. And, please, if you like, call me Ms. Sennuwy - my chosen ancient Egyptian name.

Assessments Offered
Assessment will be informal. Upon enrollment, kids will download a file with a short, fun pre-lesson quiz before the class. Afterward, I will ask some questions from that quiz to see what students have learned or retained.
Grades Offered

Please bring plain, unlined paper with a fine highlighter or marker. Red and black are good colors to use.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
There is nothing parents have to monitor, although we will discuss the magic involved with words and names that the ancient Egyptians believed in. There may be some kids who are sensitive to the notion that magic might have been associated with certain names.
