In this ongoing club, students will present a short 5 to 10 minute PowerPoint about an interesting topic they have learned about this week. Students are encouraged to interact with peers by asking each other questions about their topics.

Class experience

US Grade 9 - 12
Students are encouraged to learn about a new topic, of their own choosing, every week.
They will improve their skills in presenting information to a broad audience, because their fellow students come from different schools, and have knowledge about different topics.
In addition, they will also strengthen their theory of mind, because they will have to keep the attention and interest of their fellow students.
I have a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. In our program, we had an entire class dedicated to researching and writing essays about new technological advancements. We also had to give presentations about our findings to the entire class.
I also have experience in creating presentations that are accessible to the vast majority of people. This skill helped me win bronze in a highschool Science Fair, where I read technical publications about heavy metals, and created diagrams which helped me explain scientific subjects in a manner that was accessible to the layman.
Homework Offered
For every week, the student can prepare a short presentation about something they recently learned. Collecting information from sources such as books, webpages, or documentaries will take approximately 1 to 2 hours. Composing the short presentation will take approximately 1 hour.
1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Students will be given an assessment with feedback on how to improve their presentation skills. They are also encouraged to provide feedback to fellow students.
Grades Offered
An evaluation of the student's presentation skills will be provided to the parent. It will be mainly focused on their social skills; their ability to interact with fellow students and to explain things in a manner that fellow students that are unacquainted with a topic can both grasp and be interested in. The assessment for every class will be based on the following criteria: (25 possible points) -Conveys information in matter that grabs attention 5/5 -Conveys information at complexity level that is understandable by fellow students 5/5 -Use tools such as pictures to complement presentation 5/5 -Was open to questions and discussion from fellow students 5/5 -Listened to and asked questions or discussed fellow students' topic 5/5
It will help students with ADHD since it will allow them to showcase their passions, practice listening to others, and actively interact with others.
I will supply these resources that can be optionally used by students:
-A sample Powerpoint presentation template
-Sample presentation backgrounds
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Before every meeting, students must first send me a link or pdf of their slides, and ask if their topic is appropriate to present in front of others. I will look at the slides, and ask questions to ensure that all presentations are appropriate for fellow students, and are not based on sensitive or controversial topics. They will be given a few basic guidelines to help them determine whether a topic is okay to present.
I will stop a specific presentation or discussion if I feel like it is approaching sensitive or controversial topics, or if any student becomes uncomfortable.
