Context Clues Detectives Sleuth Greetings (5 Minutes) Teacher and student introductions. Detective Training (5 Minutes) Teacher activates background knowledge by leading a brief discussion about what are context clues. (20 minutes) Detective Training Teacher will provide direct and explicit instruction about the eight different types of context clues (with a powerpoint presentation, examples and a song). Detective Mission Briefing (5 Minutes) Teacher will explain assignment and will model an example. Detective Mission (10 Minutes) Students will look for context clues in a series of practice questions. Mission Debrief (10 Minutes) Teacher and students will review the practice questions and will review content learned.

Use context clues... to determine the meaning of multiple-meaning and unknown words and phrases, appropriate to grade level.
