1 live meeting
1 in-class hoursClass Experience
You do not need to have taken my first Weird Science course to enroll, this is a separate with even more discussion of the creepiest insects and arachnids. If your learner enjoys this topic each class will cover a different set of examples! I will present some of the creepiest and weirdest examples from the insect and arachnid world to students. This class is meant to be fun and educational, we will have a good time learning about this fun topic. The course will be part presentation, with a lot of video clips and photographs interwoven in. While we are learning the science, anatomy, habitat, and behavior of these animals, I will give students the opportunity to draw/sketch their favorite insect or arachnid from our list. We will also have plenty of time for discussion along the way so that I can engage students in the learning process. We will look specifically at the scorpion fly, executioner wasp, Brahman moth caterpillar, giant silkworm assassin caterpillar, camel spider, puss moth caterpillar, and neat and interesting pieces of science such as why are some insects drawn to light and not others? And what are the deadliest insects in the world? And how is the pain you experience from an insect bite rated? We're all about fun science in this class!
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of the insect and arachnid world through the exploration of some of it most unique examples.
