US Grade 1 - 4
In this fun and educational ongoing class, we will travel around the world learning about Earth's most unusual creatures. We will talk about animals that you’ve heard of like axolotls and sloths but we will also discuss animals that you probably never knew existed like the Red-lipped batfish, the Star-Nosed Mole, and the Pangolin. Each week will feature two or three new weird animals. We will talk about what part of the world the animals come from. We will discuss their habitats, what they eat, their classification group and we will learn what makes each animal amazing and special. We will also learn that some of these awesome animals are endangered. We will find out why they are endangered and how they can be saved. We will have fun discussing whether the animals are creepy or cute. We will even play a game at the end of each class that helps the students retain the information they just learned. I believe that learning something new doesn't have to be boring. We will have fun while we learn.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello. My name is Michelle Smith. I’m a homeschool mom, teacher and photographer. I love to sew, read, bake, draw, craft, watch movies and play video games with my daughter. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Social Science and I have taught children of all ages in the classroom and online for the past 8 years. Ten years ago I turned my passion for photography into a small business. It has been such a joy to photograph children and families. I also design, sew and sell children's clothing through an online marketplace for creative goods. I now also have the pleasure of teaching photography and sewing classes to children on Outschool. I also teach Book Clubs, Gaming, Art, English, Social studies and Science classes. My classes are very inclusive and everyone is welcomed and treated with kindness. In my classes, we will have fun while we learn. I believe that learning something new doesn't have to be intimidating or boring. I also believe in the importance of developing skills like communication, patience, empathy, perseverance, and creativity. We will practice all of these skills in my classes. I look forward to meeting your learner in my classroom.
