US Grade 2 - 5
Join us in this lively class that encourages open discussion and creative writing. Class is designed to support reluctant writers while enriching the most creative writer. Class will start with learners working together to turn a simple sentence into a more elaborate and detailed piece of writing. This will include mini lessons on a variety of writing topics to include adjectives, verbs, hooks, etc. Then learners will engage in two 5-minute writing challenges! For the first challenge learners will be given a character and setting to write about. They get to choose the events. After brainstorming ideas as a class, the timer will be set and learners will get busy jotting their ideas down on paper. For the second challenge they'll be given a list of topics to choose from, allowing for more freedom of expression through their writing. After each 5-minute challenge, learners will be given the opportunity to share their written work with the class. Teacher expertise and credentials
Maryland Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
I grew up in Wisconsin where I completed my undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education at UW Stout. I've taught for the public school system for 14 years in a variety of positions including classroom teacher, interventionist, ELL teacher and elementary science lab teacher. I hold a Masters Degree in Reading and School Administration from Johns Hopkins. After leaving the public school system I've spent the last several years teaching middle school Science and History at a homeschool tutorial while being a homeschool mom. I enjoy teaching hands on engaging courses that spark the interest of students with the ultimate goal of encouraging them to become life long learners. I welcome student interaction and questions.
In my personal life I LOVE to read, travel and explore new areas, especially the beach! I am a Girl Scout leader and adore every single girl in my troop. As a troop leader I am certified in several outdoors areas- archery, canoe, kayak, camping, etc. I can't wait to share some of my love of the outdoors with families here on Outschool.
