Class Experience

Looking to jump into table top roleplaying games or to move away from Dungeons and Dragons? Pathfinder 2e is the next most popular choice. It is a collaborative storytelling game similar to older editions of Dungeons and Dragons. It is a game of vast possibilities where you learn to think carefully, to plan, to strategize, to persuade, to resolve conflict, to collaborate, to express yourself more clearly, and so much more, all while exploring memorable locales, meeting fascinating characters in the story, and defeating powerful enemies. The major difference between it and Dungeons and Dragons is that it offers more customization for characters and more options for players.

In this course, we will begin with a Session 0 to build characters. We will then play through the short adventure, "We Be Goblins", an official Pathfinder adventure for beginners. This module will introduce you to all of the basics of Pathfinder through a fun story where you prove you worth as goblins trying to steal a cache of fireworks.

In the course students will also grow close with the other students they are adventuring with and learn to communicate clearly, work together, and treat one another with respect. After completing this course, students will be confident in the basic rules of Pathfinder 2e and can continue on to other adventures with me or begin running one of their own for family and/or friends. Please note that this is an ongoing course as it is impossible to give a specific number of meetings because that depends how the story develops in the hands of the students. Compared to other adventures, though, this is considered very short (meaning likely a month). If at some point you cannot continue, don’t worry about it. We’ll transition your character out and a new one in with believable story hooks.

Note: You must have your video on for these sessions and be unmuted as often as you can. Pathfinder is a game of community and collaboration, of experiencing, struggling, and laughing together. If you cannot actively participate, please do not enroll. Reach out to me if you have questions about this.

Parental Guidance
Though there is combat in this game, it is described in words, not images. I will also ask and require students to be conscious of their descriptions, avoiding anything grotesque or inhumane.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Sources
To prepare and run this course, I will use my experience and knowledge of (as well as references to) "The Core Rulebook", "The Gamemaster's Guide", "Bestiary 1", and the adventure "We Be Goblins".
