This class puts a fun spin on how to interpret intent and meaning in artistic work. Today we will use the wet on wet watercolor technique to create a work of art that we will then closely observe and critique. A fun watercolor class!

Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 1
  • We address the National Visual Art Standard 8: Interpret intent and meaning in artistic work.
  • Art criticism is our art vocabulary term with value as the element of art, proportion as the principal of design and performance as the modern element of art.
  • This lesson plan embraces student voice and choice as we observe (studio habit of mind). Students will learn to attend to visual contexts more closely than ordinary "looking" requires and notice things that otherwise might not be noticed.
  • This lesson reinforces an enduring understanding; People gain insights into meanings of artworks by engaging in the process of art criticism.
  • We explore an essential question; What is the value of engaging in the process of art criticism?
