US Grade 8 - 11
Students will learn the science behind water bath canning and why it is necessary. Students will interact with the teacher and other students through discussion questions. Students are encouraged (but not required) to respond to discussion questions and to the responses of 1 other learner. Each pre-recorded lesson will include an introduction over the topic of the day, ingredients, and procedures.One lesson will be posted on Monday mornings. Demonstrations will be provided for 3 lessons. Powerpoint slides will be used as visual aids and note- taking opportunities. We will explore recipes, canning basics, and safety precautions. Students are welcome to post any questions they have about the content at any time.
Learning Goals
Week 1 will be about the basics of water bath canning. I will show which materials are necessary and the safety precautions to take. We will also discuss what can be water bath canned and why. ( demonstration provided)
Week 2: How to make Mustang Grape Jelly ( demonstration provided)
Week 3: How to pickle ( a demonstration of pickled jalepenos is in the first lesson)
Week 4: How to make Salsa( demonstration provided)
