One of the first things taught in Waldorf education is fairytales and folk tales. These are used as the basis for learning the alphabet not only by memorization but by learning the qualities of each letter by relating them to beloved stories and characters from fairytales. We will use hands-on methods including painting, drawing, and wax modeling to discover the qualities of each letter. We will also use form drawing to enhance the quality of handwriting and drawing as well as build up the child's artistic sensibility. Each week we will hear a fairytale and then draw, write, paint or model the letters that relate to that particular story. Each class will begin and end with a secular verse to help us focus on our work. We will then review anything from the previous class to help ensure that the material has been learned. Classes may also include songs, poems, or seasonal activities. Teacher expertise and credentials
Welcome! I'm Chelsea, teacher, and mother of two children ages 8 and 13. I've been working with Outschool since 2017 and as an online teacher since 2016. Outside of the online world, I am a currently working as a Waldorf Lead Teacher for Grades 6, former Waldorf Handwork Teacher, and former Waldorf Early Childhood Extended Care Teacher. In the past, I've also been a junior high art teacher and a substitute teacher as well.
I have been involved in the world of Waldorf as both a teacher and parent for over a decade now. I am currently working on my Waldorf teaching certification with The Sophia Institute. I have also participated in the iWaldorf grades teachers conference and Jamie York Math training for Waldorf teachers. I am passionate about Waldorf education and I love being able to share it with families on Outschool.
I am also certified as an EFL/ESL teacher with both my TEFL and IDELT certificates. I have a Bachelor's Degree (B.A.) in Arts Administration and a Master's Degree in Business (MBA).
I am fascinated by languages and have been lucky to have spent time traveling out of the country to several places including Germany. My trips to Germany have included being a part of an ambassador group to kick off my hometown's sister cities program with Wasserburg, Germany. I have also been involved with hosting several German exchange students through the aforementioned program as well as through other exchange organizations. I've studied the German language for several years and still continue to practice with conversational German tutors to keep my own skills fresh.
I am also an avid student of natural health and have completed several certification programs in this area including herbology, essential oils, and wellness coaching for children, families and pregnant women. I am currently pursuing my ND certification as well and hope to finish within the next 3 years.
When I'm not teaching you find me working on my latest drawing or painting, reading or enjoying time with my children. I am so thankful that online teaching gives me the opportunity to teach from my home while connecting with people around the world. I can't wait to work with you and your child!
