From pyroclastic eruptions to molten igneous rock to historic volcanoes - children will learn all about volcanoes while practicing reading comprehension skills and improving vocabulary through discussion.

Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
Calling all learners! Watch out for the volcano! Ash clouds are falling and scorching hot magma is erupting as lava! Come with me as we explore volcanoes and visit some famous ones along the way! We will have the chance to watch a volcano erupting in Indonesia and time travel back to Pompeii! Did you know that a volcanic eruption caused the LOUDEST sound on record! volcanic eruptions are wonderful dangerous events - let's learn some awesome new facts and vocabulary along the way. And remember - don't get too close to the lava - it's very very HOT! 

At the end of this session you will earn your honorary volcanologist certificate! 

Would you like to learn about volcano? Maybe you know a lot about volcanoes and would like to share all about it! This is the lesson for you! You will also have a chance to answer questions and read too! 

There will also be optional pre-class and after class opportunities to join in the classroom extra tasks:

-	Draw and label a volcano.
-	Upload a video you have made about a volcano or volcanic eruption past or present. 
-	Write a report about the volcano or a famous volcanic eruption.
-	Share amazing facts

Each piece of work will earn a digital sticker!

Comprehension skills are vital when trying to pass exams at schools. This lesson is a straightforward fun lesson where students will learn about the volcano. I will share my screen, via Zoom , the lesson, so children can read along and discuss the material. 

Parent's note: Children's ability to understand new vocabulary in a given text is closely linked to good comprehension skills in reading. Teachers work really hard to include this in the curriculum but it is time consuming. This short but information packed lesson will give children uninterrupted time to practice and hone their skills in this area.  The goal is to get children to enjoy discussion based and comprehension activities.

Any new and technical vocabulary will be explained and children will have a change to use new words in sentence that they can use in their work in school.

World Wildlife Fund - an environmental organization that provides educational resources and information about wildlife conservation and sustainability and animals that live in volcanic regions. BBC.com - the online portal of the British Broadcasting Corporation that provides news and educational content on a wide range of subjects. NASA Climate Kids - an educational website that provides information on climate change and its impact on the planet, as well as fun games and activities for children. Please note that these websites have been reviewed and deemed appropriate for educational purposes by many educational establishments. However, it is important to understand that these websites may contain links to other content that is not part of our class. Therefore, we encourage you to monitor your child's use of these websites and guide them to stay on task. In order to access some of the resources you will need to have access to Youtube. You will not need to have a Youtube account and the links will be sent through the. Outschool platform.
