Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree from Penn State University
I have taught in my homeschool for 20+ years and taught ESL for 10+ years online -- spelling is just a challenge! English is such a mish-mash of other languages that it creates some crazy ways to spell words. Learning roots and common prefixes and suffixes helps build vocabulary which can then be applied to writing and reading comprehension. Practice and reinforcement are the best tools for learning these words...games and friends make the learning fun!
In addition to teaching my own kids, I have a journalism degree from Penn State, and I am IMSE Orton-Gillingham trained in phonics and reading instruction.
