Did you know that vocabulary is a key indicator of future literacy success? Please join us for this interactive class as we build vocabulary, reading comprehension, and - perhaps most importantly-- a love of learning. This class is a great fit for families who have learners who need support in reading/writing, but don't want a long commitment or big out-of-pocket cost. In this class, learners will get to interact with the teacher and each other through discussion, games, slides, Q&A, video clips (and more!) in a safe and engaging environment! In our classroom, fun is a priority and a growth mindset is shared between students and teacher alike. I set clear success criteria and use proven instructional strategies to help increase student confidence, competence, and skills! Each class we will bring 3-5 new words to life with interactive games and activities. We will spiral review frequently to check for understanding and retention. Using vocabulary words in writing shows mastery. Occasionally, I will challenge students to use all of their vocabulary words in an original short story. We will also apply the vocabulary we've built by incorporating them in other writing pieces and by seeing them in context in reading comprehension activities. Week of June 12: Introduce Million Dollar Word Club and Play Vocab Pictionary Week of June 19th: Draw Word Maps and play Vocab Memory Game Week of June 26th: Play Post it Stations and Vocab Pop Week of July 3rd: Play Vocabulary Jeopardy to review (check for understanding & retention of words) Week of July 10th: Write vocabulary short stories Can't wait to see your learner in class!
