1. The class will begin with an explanation of who Vivien Thomas is.
2. We will read about some interesting facts about his life.
3. I will give a 5 minute lecture about the contributions that he made in medical history.
4. The class will be opened to discussion. Students will ask questions of me as well as their fellow students.

Parents can watch the movie "Something the Lord Made" (with students to get an understanding of who Vivien Thomas was and what he contributed to modern medicine. The movie is age-appropriate.

Students should watch the movie "Something the Lord Made" (optional but helpful). If you opt to have the learner watch the movie, I suggest either parents watch it first or with the learner. The movie has nothing to do with religion but has negative racial components.
