Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 4
Paleoart is an exciting fusion of scientific knowledge and creative imagination. Join our class on Outschool to delve into the captivating realm of ancient life through the lens of art. With over 97% of all past life on Earth now extinct, the fossil record holds a treasure trove of clues about the appearance and behaviors of prehistoric creatures like dinosaurs, sea scorpions, mammoths, and placoderms.

In this engaging club, nature enthusiasts, art lovers, and science fans come together every week to explore the wonders of ancient life. Each session begins with an overview of a fascinating ancient animal, including intriguing facts about its discovery, anatomy, and ecology. Using various artistic techniques and media, learners embark on the thrilling task of reconstructing these creatures with scientific accuracy. Guided by feedback from both their peers and the instructor, as well as references such as fossil images and skeletal reconstructions, students refine their artwork to bring these long-lost beings to life.

The classroom provides a supportive environment where learners can share their projects and progress on a dedicated weekly thread, exclusive to club members. By participating in this class, you'll not only enhance your artistic skills but also deepen your appreciation for the natural world and the science behind it.

Each month, we explore a different ancient ecosystem or fossil formation, allowing learners to immerse themselves in distinct time periods and locations. As a class, we collectively choose the animal of the week, investigating how it would have interacted within its ancient world. Here's a glimpse of our exciting monthly schedule:

June: Uncover the mysteries of the Hell Creek Formation (Late Cretaceous Period).
July: Step into the Early Cretaceous era with the enchanting Yixian Formation.
August: Journey back to the Late Triassic period and explore the wonders of the Chinle Formation.
September: Immerse yourself in the Late Miocene epoch as we study the fascinating Pisco Formation.
October: Travel to the remarkable Lameta Formation and unlock its secrets.
November: Unearth the wonders of the Kem Kem Group, a treasure trove from the past.
December: Conclude the year by delving into the captivating Prince Creek Formation.

Whether you're a paleontology enthusiast, a lover of nature, or a fan of science, this class is a perfect opportunity to develop your natural art skills and unlock the wonders of ancient life. Join us on this incredible journey of creativity and discovery!
