Roll-A-Design Activity
Students leave their visual journal design up to chance by following a roll-a-design guide. They roll a die for each step, which determines the color, materials, and subject for their work of art. This fun activity will push students to try designs they normally wouldn’t.
Students will leave their visual journal page design up to chance by rolling a dice to create the design. Students will create one page in their visual journal, but can reuse the handout for future roll-a-design pages.
I can't remember not having art in my life. I was raised by an art teacher, got my bachelor's and master's in art education, taught art-focused summer camps, volunteered in art classrooms, and taught high school art for over 12 years. Now I develop art lessons and curriculums for other teachers or homeschool parents to implement in their art classrooms. I love the flexibility virtual teaching offers me while still allowing me to be involved in education. Please reach out anytime with questions or comments!
Homework Offered
Once the demo videos and materials have been reviewed students have the opportunity to use the material and technique in their own visual journal that week.

If you haven't taken my Introduction to visual journals class, that is the best starting point. You can sign up for the one-week intro here: http://bit.ly/48qqrpc or the full 4-week intro here: https://bit.ly/4axM3Sn
Students will control what the subject matter is in their own artwork and I don't show anything that could be upsetting or above a G rating. Students may need to use supplies such as scissors, supervision may be needed.
Nothing is required outside of Outschool to complete the assignment. However, it is helpful for students to be able to search for visual journal inspiration on Pinterest, YouTube, or similar.
