Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
In this interactive class, students will be introduced to Canada’s newest capitol city, Iqaluit Nunavut, from a teacher who has lived there. Google slides will be used in a “Choose Your Adventure” type method to present the different sites and activities that can be seen and done in this glorious Arctic town. Students will learn about dog sledding, See the waterfalls and tundra at Sylvia Grinell Territorial Park, learn about Toonik Time, witness the Northern lights and discuss the unique architecture, such as the ice cube tray-shaped Nakasuk Elementary School. Students will also learn a few Inuktitut phrases and have a chance to see syllabic writing.

This class is great for any student wishing to learn about Canada’a Arctic. It aligns with Canadian Social Studies grade 2 units, where students learn about different communities in Canada.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Ms. Amanda and I was born to teach. I have two younger sisters and when I was little, I would play teacher with them all the time. As a child, I even taught my sister Sam how to read. I love reading and Harry Potter is my all-time favourite series (yes that is how you spell favourite in Canada).

Now that I am all grown up, I have had the pleasure to teach everything from Pre Kindergarten to grade 6, Adult Basic Education and college level courses. I was even the Principal and Student Support Teacher of a small school for a few years! I have a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature, a BEd, a Masters of Science in Education with a specialist in reading and literacy and am currently a Doctoral Candidate.

I believe that all students can learn when the teacher recognizes student choice and multiple intelligences, and when strong relationships are fostered through listening and sharing. This will develop a lifelong love of learning.

I can't wait to virtually meet my students from across the continent!

Talk to you soon,
Ms. Amanda
