Class Experience

In this interactive virtual experience, we will use an external website to go on a virtual expedition. As the teacher, I'll lead the group through the virtual adventure, narrate the tour which will be jam packed with facts and details, and answer questions from the class. At Mount Everest we'll discuss history, geology, foreign cultures, and folklore, while taking in spectacular virtual 360° views of the climb up Mount Everest. (Please note the virtual tour does not have an image from the summit - don't want anyone disappointed).
Please be sure to check out the website provided in your welcome email before class to ensure we can start on time!

Learning Goals

Students will learn a variety of facts about Mount Everest, all from the comfort of home. The intent is to spark each student's interest in doing their own further research.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! Welcome to my Outschool profile. I am a dynamic teacher with a passion for a variety of different topics so my class offerings vary to help keep things fresh and exciting.
Before the virus, I was working as a substitute teacher which means I've worked with kids from 4-19 in almost every subject out there. I love the variety that comes with substitute teaching. I could be teaching kindergartners to write their names one day, directing a high school orchestra the next, and round out my week teaching middle school kids about chemical reactions.
In the summers, I've worked at various camps, keeping my interactions strong and building amazing relationships. I've taught theater, sewing, art, cooking, dance, music and even bike riding at my various camp locations.
I'm involved with a medieval recreation group so history is my hobby. I work with a local professional theater as a stage manger. As well as teaching with a nonprofit that teaches kids the art of theater in a professional setting.
I believe strongly that kids learn best when they are already excited about a topic. Building anticipation and staying interactive are great ways to keep everyone engaged. My favorite classes are those where kids are able to ask a lot of questions and explore the details of a topic they are just learning to fall in love with.
Before the pandemic hit, I had just begun to explore the world of homeschooling with my 12 year old. Navigating this new landscape as both a parent and a teacher has given me new insight and enthusiasm for teaching, learning and giving back.
