Learners will be able to 'escape' if they complete each puzzle along the way.Class Experience
US Grade 5
*Please note. This is a flex class. There will be no live meetings. Each week we will independently participate in an escape room focusing on a specific math skill. A link to the escape room will be posted in the classroom on Monday. Students will be challenged to complete the puzzles and escape the room in 30 minutes and are required to submit their answers to the teacher when completed. Each escape room will include videos for further instruction and enhancement (including, but not limited to, videos by the teacher). The students are expected to communicate through the classroom chat to share tips on how to solve the puzzles with other learners. Participation and interaction in the classroom chat is not encouraged or optional but it is expected and very important. Learners are expected to post how long it took them to complete the puzzles in the classroom chat each week. We will have an ongoing tally of learners and their times. NO POSTING ANSWERS PLEASE! The teacher will be available through the classroom chat on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to answer any questions regarding the puzzles. This FLEX course has 8 different escape rooms. Every week one will be released on Monday and it will need to be completed by Wednesday. Answers will be posted by the teacher on Thursday each week. Students should be familiar with the math skills before class since these puzzles will serve as a review. Week 1: INTO THE FOREST: including but not limited to place value and rounding Week 2: VILLAGE ADVENTURE: including but not limited to mental addition and subtraction Week 3: ESCAPE THE CAVE: including but not limited to multiplication Week 4: FOREST MAZE: including but not limited to division Week 5: FUN HOUSE (OR NOT!): including but not limited to roman numerals Week 6: SNOWY VILLAGE: including but not limited to adding and subtracting fractions with a common denominator Week 7: THE NETHER: including but not limited to measurement (length, weight, volume) Week 8: THE END: some of the above and word problems *Special note: You do not need to have access to (or be familiar with) Minecraft for any of these escape rooms. The focus is on math practice. The theme is Minecraft.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Education from USILACS
Hello! I am very excited to begin a learning journey with your precious little one (or not so little one, in the case of teens). I have a Bachelors in Postsecondary education with a minor in American Sign Language. I was a homeschool mom for over 20 years. Both my son and daughter graduated from high school 2 years early and we are weeks away from both of them having their BA (at ages 22 and 18). I feel like I have mastered the art of teaching based on the child and their interests. I started teaching my children ASL at birth. My son and my daughter are both sign language interpreters and sign language teachers.
I love teaching and I love learning. I am an avid swimmer. I have been certified as a swim instructor and a personal trainer. I have been teaching online since 2018. I absolutely love seeing children learn and grow. In our classroom we have no stress or negativity. I feel positive reassurance provides the best learning environment. We have lots of fun! See you in the classroom!
Love, Teacher Pam
P.S. If you see a class you are interesting in taking but the times listed just don't work for you, please reach out to me with your time request and I'll see what I can do.
