What's included

1 live meeting
50 mins in-class hours per week
Homework
2-4 hours per week. Learners will need to write and/or record their game review prior to the class it's scheduled to be presented.

Class Experience

This ongoing class provides learners with the chance to turn their video game passion into a writing, producing, and public speaking opportunity! Learners will select a game to review during an upcoming session, work on their review on their own time, and then present the review in a future class session. Class meetings consist of an allotted time for each presenter to share their review, followed by question and answer and class discussion time about the game presented.

Reviews can be presented in a variety of formats: written (article or blog style), slide presentation (PowerPoint, Google Docs, etc.), or video; and should include:

Name
Publisher
Rating (ESRB or PEGI)
Platform (PC, console, tablet, mobile)
Genre (First person shooter (FPS), Tower Defense, Simulator, Puzzle, RPG, Crafting, etc.)
Gameplay mechanics
Story and characters
Design strengths and weaknesses
Percentage and role of DLC
Screenshots and/or video footage
Any sensitive or potentially offensive content
Your recommendation

If you would like to do a review of Minecraft, great! Pick an aspect, biome, update, or a small part of the game that you want to feature and review that. There's plenty to touch on and lots to share!

Please note: Games reviewed in this class should be age-appropriate. Please limit your selections to those with the following ratings: ESRB E, E10+, or TEEN; or PEGI 3, 7, 12 or 16.
Learning Goals
Learners will participate in both presenting information and being a good audience. They will practice reporting factual information, as well as stating their opinion, and using solid reasoning to support their viewpoint. Learners will not only share information about their favorite games, but also learn about new games from others. They will participate in active and polite debate, as well as critical thinking about various game aspects, such as mechanics, genre, and overall experience for each title.
