Class Experience

Let's celebrate Christmas and learn about the elements of music at Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party at Disney World! In this one-time class learners will explore four fundamental concepts of music. We will focus on these four concepts while listening to several selections of classic Christmas music. As a result, learners will develop their listening skills and be able to identify these concepts in music as they listen. We will also enjoy elements of the Christmas party like festive decorations, favorite characters in their holiday best, and a magical Christmas parade! No previous knowledge is required.

At the end of class, learners will show what they've learned by completing a listening glyph coloring activity (PDF provided; print before class!).

The Christmas-themed activities in this class will cover the following concepts:
- tempo
- dynamics
- texture
- mood
Learning Goals
Students will be able to identify basic musical elements such as tempo, dynamics, mood and texture
in varying pieces of music.

Students will show familiarity with three to four pieces of holiday music that are representative of different styles and/or time
periods.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi there, parents and learners! My name is Lindsay Denney and I have been an elementary school music teacher for the last 10 years. During that time I also taught both middle school and high school students in concert band and marching band settings. I hold a State Certification in Music K-12 as well as a Bachelor of Music Education Degree with an Instrumental Music Focus.

I will offer a variety of music classes on topics ranging from reading music notation to specific instruments (recorder, ukulele, etc) as well as general music instruction by grade level. I love to create themed lessons and units that make music more accessible to learners. I also plan to incorporate additional fun classes to focus on other passions of mine in which I am well versed and experienced.

It is my philosophy that music is for everyone and every person should have the opportunity to participate in music in some way. It is also widely known that music can benefit students across the curriculum:
- Math: Music is rhythm based on the division of time into fractions.
- Language: Music is a universal language that also requires learning words in Italian, French, and German.
- History: Music has been present since the beginning of mankind and is tightly woven into the history of civilization.
- Reading: Reading music requires many of the same skills necessary to read books and maintain literacy.
- Science: Music involves the study of acoustics, sound waves, and frequencies created by voices and instruments.

I love all things music related as well as reading, Disney, and playing with my 1 year old daughter!
