Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 5
This is a 4-week course that meets once a week for 1 hour. This class examines the history of the United States, starting with the election of George H.W. Bush to the present day. The class is a lecture- and discussion-based course. Participation is encouraged but not required. I enjoy telling stories from the perspective of the people who lived through and experienced the events discussed, so much of the class will focus on historical narratives, pictures, and videos of events studied.

The course will provide multiple perspectives, including the historical perspectives of women, as well as exploring the experiences of racial and ethnic groups, including African American and migrant history.

Parental Guidance
The class will address acts of terrorism that have been perpetrated against the United States, as well as armed conflicts. Given the age group, class discussion will focus on the lasting legacy of these conflicts and how they continue to shape the world today. There will be discussions on potentially politically divisive topics. Students will be expected and required to respect different views and experiences. To this end, we will look at history from varying perspectives, with a focus on objective and provable facts. The class will focus on multiple perspectives. Since this is primarily a history class there will be references to historical documents and articles from a variety of sources to include, but not limited to, reference materials from services such as Westlaw and Lexis/Nexis and the National Archives.
