Homework
1 hour per week. Each week, learners are encouraged to complete the following assignments to receive the maximum out of this class, retain the material, and have fun: - Respond to one or more questions posed by the teacher in the instructional video. - Read the week's story and sharing a recording of them doing so, - Participate in the weekly game, and - Complete the 1 to 3 worksheets practicing that week's phrases and vocabulary. Some weeks I provide extra fun ways to practice as well, like optional games for learners to play on their own or with family. Some weeks there are optional Kahoot review quizzes as well.Class Experience
Stories, laughter, and games make compelling forces in language-learning! In this course, those who have already learned some basics in Spanish but may not be ready for full-immersion learning build on their knowledge of vocabulary and phrases to use in back-and-forth dialogue through our weekly topics tackled through games and stories. The pre-recorded lessons are in Spanish and English, anticipating learners have completed some previous Spanish learning, such as my beginning Spanish lesson 1-8, 9-16, 17-24, 25-32. However, upper-beginning Spanish students who have not completed those specific courses are also welcome. I work to keep the language simple and ask that you please reach out where something isn't clear to you. In the classroom page, I provide written instruction in English about what to do for the week. Though this flex version of the course includes no live class time, please see below the various ways we will interact over the course of this learning experience: In the pre-recorded lesson I: 1 - Present the lesson's key phrases through question and answer. 2 - Guide learners through the book that accompanies this week's lesson. 3 - Model one or more games to use to practice the lesson. 4 - Wrap up with a verbal quiz on the key phrases and vocabulary. ~Interaction by sharing weekly readings~ Each week features a simple beginning Spanish reader created by the teacher that practices that week's phrases and vocabulary. Each Monday, I share a video of myself reading the story, I provide printable versions of the stories for the learners to practice. Learners share recordings of themselves reading these books in video or audio format. I provide weekly video individual feedback on learners' videos. ~Interaction through asynchronous games~ Each Monday, I will also present a game to practice that week's focus in which learners can participate asynchronously with me and/or other learners. Week 1 is a guessing game based on one another's descriptions. Week 2 is charades, in which we each act something out in a quick recording and guess which phrase is being acted out by others. Week 3 is a picture guessing game, where we guess the school subject based on one another's close up shots. Week 4 is a guess-the-drawing game. ~Interaction through feedback on homework~ Each week with the instructional videos, I provide class notes, a printable version of the week's story, and multiple worksheets. The worksheets vary by week and include drawing, writing, fill-in-the-blank, true or false, and matching. Learners post their completed worksheets in the classroom, and I provide individual feedback. Each week includes a Kahoot review quiz as well! These will be our weekly focuses: Week 1 - Introducing ourselves with names, optionally pronouns, and favorites, Book: "Nos presentamos" (We Introduce Ourselves) by the instructor Week 2 - Sharing what instruments we play and other musical activities we enjoy, Book: "Mi banda musical" (My Music Band) by the instructor Week 3 - Telling what school subjects we study, Book: "La escuela de Ibán" (Iban's School) by the instructor Week 4 - Identifying two-dementional shapes, Book: "Me gusta mi forma" (I Like My Shape) by the instructor
