What's included

8 live meetings
5 hrs 20 mins in-class hours
Homework
Some experiments will be started in class and then over the two days apart will require careful observation from the students. For those experiments, I will ask if the students can write or draw in their scientific journals what they are observing.
Assessment
I will be informally assessing the students on their knowledge and what they have gained from the class.

Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
This will be a fun, hands-on, engaging intro to chemistry class for children from the ages of 7-10 years old. Children will be learning the basics of chemistry and then taking a hands-on approach and creating the experiments in their homes while learning the science behind it! The students will be able to make educated predictions (hypotheses) and observe what occurs in each experiment. Students will be able to discuss what they are seeing, smelling, and feeling. The students will be drawing, writing, or verbally discussing their predictions and observations throughout the process, it will be very interactive between teacher and learners. The students do not need any previous knowledge for this course. This course enhances critical thinking skills and social skills. This course incorporates STEAM curriculum.

The class structure will start with an introduction and a vocabulary word(s) related to the experiment.
Ex. (Vocab word) - Hypothesis - means a scientific prediction of what they think will be observed or what will take place.

We will discuss the vocab word(s) in more depth then move on to the experiment of the day. After a description of the experiment that will be done, students will then predict what they think will occur and write or draw their predictions in their journals.

Experiment time:
1. Students gather their materials
2. We will do the experiment in steps altogether (measuring and mixing)
3. Watch the experiments come to life
4. Class discussion on what they observed (visual, smells, touch)
5. Write/draw the outcomes in their scientific journals

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Students may need assistance from parents during certain classes where hot water will be used. Parents should ensure that students have the proper safety equipment (safety goggles especially).
Supply List
Materials For Individual Activities For Semester 1: Intro to Chem

Students will need: journal, pen or pencil, and coloring materials for each class
Recommendations For Class:
Safety goggles or glasses would be recommended for eye safety
Food Coloring works best if it is a liquid base, not a gel base
This class is MESSY so I would recommend getting a tray or using a baking sheet for easier cleanup with the experiments
