US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - Kindergarten
Welcome to Unicorns and Rainbows Kinder Prep Time! A class that's perfect for learners going into kindergarten or first grade. We’re going to have so much fun learning the skills we need for school with Princess Rainbow the Unicorn! During this 18-week FLEX course, let’s get ready for kindergarten or first grade by learning and reviewing the letters of the alphabet, learning phonemic awareness and beginning phonics, and learning numbers, basic math skills, shapes and more. We’ll practice writing our names, learn about classroom routines, read stories and rhymes, make comparisons, practice counting, learn about different kinds of animals, and explore our world together. This class is also great for learners who are already in kindergarten or first grade and need some extra review. Since this is a FLEX course, there will be no live meetings. Every other week, videos and Nearpod lessons will be posted in the classroom. Students can watch the videos and do hands-on activities along with the videos. For the Nearpod lessons, students will be able to access them using a link that I will send you. You will need to put in your child's name in order to complete the Nearpod lesson. During the weeks in between lessons, I will post review and a discussion board for students to review what they've been learning and discuss their ideas. In addition to teaching time and Nearpod student-paced lessons, we’ll also do hands-on activities together that incorporate all of the different subjects your child will be learning about in school, including literacy, math, science, social studies, life skills, and the arts. My teaching style is fun and active. I use colorful slides during class that capture students’ attention. I also use a variety of puppets and stuffed animals for dramatic play in the classroom. *Note: In this class, we will be doing a variety of learning activities for ages 4-7. Some activities may be above your learner's level, and that's okay! You are always welcome to skip over activities that don't meet your learner's needs or modify them for your learner if you'd like. Please reach out to me if you have any questions or need further help for your learner. Parental Guidance
Parental guidance is recommended to assist learners throughout the course as we will be using the third-party platforms, YouTube, Nearpod, and Google Forms (for a review quiz).
I will create and upload private videos to YouTube and then share the links in the classroom that you can watch with your child.
Parental consent is needed for learners to participate in the Nearpod learning assessment activities. I will share the link and code for each activity. You will need to provide a full name and optional nickname for your child to access Nearpod.
Note about using play dough: Play dough may contain wheat, which could cause an allergic reaction if ingested in those sensitive to wheat gluten or with Celiac disease. If your child is sensitive to wheat gluten, you can provide homemade play dough made without wheat.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi there! 😊
I'm Ms. Elizabeth, an early literacy and reading tutor for grades Pre-K through 2nd Grade. I also teach online preschool for ages 3-5 as well as art and reading/writing classes for ages 6-9.
My classes are fun, interactive, and highly engaging for young learners. I incorporate music, movement, stories, art, and hands-on learning activities for a holistic learning experience. I believe that a child-centric, play-based approach is best for young children as they learn.
I strive to create classes that spark my students' interests, engage with their curiosity, and inspire them to go even further in their learning. I love seeing my students get excited about reading, writing, creating, and exploring.
For my early reading tutoring classes, I follow the research-based science of reading principles, including teaching oral language, phonological awareness and phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, reading/language comprehension, and writing. I'm committed to helping your child learn the basic literacy skills they need to succeed in their reading journey. I use high-quality materials and individualize each tutoring lesson to fit your child's specific learning needs.
I've been teaching online for over 4 years. I began my teaching journey as an online ESL teacher, and then transitioned into teaching online preschool and early reading/writing classes.
I've been working with children for over 10 years as a babysitter, nanny, and tutor.
I have a Bachelor's degree in English/Creative Writing. Currently, I'm working on getting an associate's degree in early childhood care and education.
In addition to teaching, I also write fiction for young adults.
I love spending time at home with my husband and our two kitty babies, Kiki and Teddy. Once in a while, you may get to see a kitty in class too!
