Students will be able to identify different place value digits within a number. Using base-ten blocks, we will learn specific math vocabulary and compare the worth of digits within 3-digit numbers. This class will be interactive and the students will be asked to participate. At the end of class, we will play a game to reinforce what we've learned in the lesson. The class will be structured like this: introduction (so I can get a small glimpse of what they know), teacher modeling/instruction, interactive and guided practice, review and game.
Students will improve their knowledge of place value digits within a number.
A white-board/dry-erase marker or piece of paper/pencil would be great to have in class. I will also add a PDF file (place value chart and vocabulary cards) once students sign up for the class that will be available to print (optional).
Hello! I have taught for over 20 years in many different capacities. I have taught kindergarten, first grade, resource special education, and self-contained special education (with non-verbal autistic students) in a public school setting. I have also been able to home school my own children (and have taught in a few homeschool co-ops). I am also familiar with online teaching as I taught ESL online to students in China. I have a Bachelor's degree in Family and Child Development and a Master's degree in Special Education. I hold a current teaching certificate in General Education, Special Education, and Adapted Special Education. Most of my experience comes from working with students who are ages 5-10 so my classes will focus on skills taught during first to third grade. I believe each child can be successful and that some just need extra encouragement and/or "tricks". I love connecting with students and finding strategies to help them. I enjoy looking for ideas to make my classes fun! A fun fact about me...I started out as a voice major and have an Associate's degree in music therapy! I love to sing!!
