In this class, students will understand the place value of a two-digit number and the representation amounts of tens and ones. They will use problem-solving strategies to solve addition/subtraction problems.

Students will understand that the two digits of a two-digit number represent amounts of tens and ones and understand that 10 can be thought of as a bundle of ten ones — called a "ten." Students will identify and solve the place value of two-digit numbers and bundle 10's to count faster for a sum. For example, the numbers from 11 to 19 are composed of a ten and one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, or nine ones. This will be a student-centered whole group class with individual work and teacher support throughout class. Students will work together to solve and have discussions.

Students will be able to represent a given number and show an understanding of the place value of a number for one, tens and hundreds.
