This class is suitable for absolute beginners, intermediate, or advanced learners of all ages, because it is a private session. This is a light-hearted, fun class designed to get kids excited about playing music on the ukulele or guitar. Instead of a boring lecture, the goal is to find the root musical desire and build on that base. The students will learn through positive reinforcement through concepts of dance and rhythm. This class will vary based on the learner's ability level and desires for progressing on their musical instrument. This is only a brief guideline of how 8 weeks might go with an absolute beginner. Week 1 Students will learn the basic vocabulary words relating to the instrument. They will learn the proper way to strum and some alternative ways of strumming. They will learn how to make a C chord and will begin practicing with pushing down strings. Week 2 Students will practice strumming and counting to 4. The teacher will demonstrate rhythm and ask the students to follow and count. Students will continue practicing with the C chord. Week 3 Students will review strumming and rhythm while playing the C chord. They will learn how to play an Am chord. The teacher will demonstrate a slow, basic rhythm pattern that switches between the C and Am chords. Week 4 Students will review what they've learned in previous weeks. They will practice strumming techniques and switching between the C and Am chords. They will be taught how a ukulele is tuned. Parents will receive a message about what their child has learned. They will also receive tips and techniques for continuing learning into the future. Week 5 Learn the F chord and practice switching between the other chords and strumming. Begin strumming a new song.. Week 6 Continue practicing the song from last week and introduce the G chord. Practice strumming the G chord. Week 7 Review the G chord and practice strumming patterns while switching between all 4 chords (G, C, Am, F) Week 8 Begin strumming a new song of choice that includes some or all of the chords the student has learned so far.
