Students will learn and review the basics of ukulele including how to hold the instrument, playing position and rest position, how to strum, proper hand and finger position, simple chords, how to count and play chord patterns, and how to play multiple popular children's songs. They will also improve their rhythm, counting skills, and pattern recognition.
I am a certified music educator with a M.A in Music & Music Education. I fell in love with the ukulele over a decade ago, and have been playing and teaching it ever since. I have been teaching group ukulele classes for 10 years. I also have taught private music lessons for 15 years. I love this instrument and specialize in teaching beginning instrumental music lessons to young beginners. The ukulele is a happy instrument, so my goal is to make learning the ukulele fun and frustration-free.
Each week learners will watch video lessons to learn new technique, chords, and songs. They will receive songs sheets and videos to practice along with. It is recommended that students practice the material learned 10 minutes a day or more, 5 days a week. Learners will be required to submit a video each week demonstrating the technique, chords, and/or songs learned.
A ukulele and an electronic tuner or tuner app are required for this class. Learners will be provided with links to prerecorded video lessons, song sheets for practicing, and a Google Slides presentation to practice and review the material learned.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Each learner's progress is assessed on a weekly basis. After learners submit a video demonstrating the technique, chords, and/or songs learned each week, they will receive individualized feedback and useful tips that will help them improve and master basic ukulele technique.
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
