Class Experience
Everything that exists is made up of elements. Whether elements are on their own or combined with other elements they make up everything. Understanding what elements are and how they work is fundamental to having a deep understanding of science. In this class we will look at the periodic table of elements, examine why it has its current layout, and study several of the groups or families on the periodic table. Students will learn through listening, viewing, creating, and discussing. The...
Students will understand that the periodic table of elements is made up of many groups and families of elements that share characteristics and properties. Students will also understand what atoms are and how to create basic models of atoms.
I specialize in finding fun twists to standard curriculum to help my students build critical thinking skills as well as scientific knowledge. By adding a new twist to a familiar topic we can expand our thinking to include new possibilities. I have taught science to homeschool students for the last 16 years and during that time I have developed many teaching techniques and hands-on projects to help students explore concepts in new and exciting ways.
A handout I will provide before our first class, blank sheets of paper, pencils, and colors.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
4 hours 10 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Some elements are used as weapons so this may be discussed in class.
