Tutoring Phonics Fun

This class is for children who are ready to begin learning their letters and their accompanying sounds. Using UFLI (University of Florida Literacy Institute) and other materials, we will learn/review letter sounds and practice blending sounds together to sound out simple words.  As a previous Kindergarten teacher, the importance of letter knowledge is essential to bridging the path to fluent reading.  This class will build on a student's letter knowledge and reinforce letter sounds.  Over time, blending onsets and rimes (c + at), will help students begin to read simple CVC words.  When ready, Dolch Kindergarten sight words will be taught.  In class, or for homework, students will draw or find items beginning with the sound of the letters we are working on for that class.  Each week, new letters and sounds will be introduced.  Feel free to jump in or exit the class at your convenience.  There is also a lot of repetition in this weekly class.
