Pop songs follow a form like a story: the Verse gives detail about characters and setting, the Pre-Chorus sets up the action of events, the Chorus hooks us with the main plot point(s), and the Bridge ties it all together. Using a popular well-known story from a book, movie, or TV show and a Pop song that learners choose at the beginning of Day 1, we will identify the plot, details, events, and characters to plug it all into the Pop music form via a karaoke track for Day 2. Whether learners love to sing or just want to help collaborate on the lyrics of the song, everyone gets to recall, comprehend, and create a catchy way to reinvent a story!
Learning Goals
Learners will recall the plot, details, events, characters, and form of a story (intro, rising action, climax, denouement/falling action, and conclusion) to recall, assess comprehension, and utilize higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) for creating and reinventing a Pop melody with new lyrics. Each learner will also be able to aurally identify a Verse, Pre-Chorus, Chorus, and Bridge of any Pop song so they can rewrite lyrics of other songs for story learning in the future.
