Class Experience

US Grade Preschool - Kindergarten
"Tunes and Tales: A Musical Story Time" is a vibrant and engaging class where young children explore the joy of storytelling through music. Children will learn new words, rhythm, and musical concepts while developing their listening skills and imagination. We cover a variety of themes, including classic fairy tales, animal adventures, and everyday experiences, all accompanied by songs that reinforce the story's message and characters. Each session begins with an interactive reading, followed by related songs and musical activities, including singing, clapping, and playing simple instruments to keep children engaged. My teaching style is interactive and playful, focusing on creating a fun and supportive environment. Children will have ample opportunities to interact through group discussions, musical games, and partner activities, with interactive elements like sing-alongs, rhythm games, and opportunities for questions to encourage active participation and engagement.

Week of 6/3: "Wild Symphony" by Dan Brown
Week of 6/10: "The Story Orchestra: Carnival of the Animals" by Katy Flint
Week of 6/17: Sound Stories, Using Instruments to Story Tell
Week of 6/20: "The Pout Pout Fish" by Deborah Diesen

Supply List
Students do not need anything specific for this class! If you have toy instruments available, it may better enhance their experience. However, many of the activities we will do can be done using materials from around the home or even simple body percussion (claps, stomps, pats, etc.).

Please simply ensure that your student has space to move around and any wanted musical materials nearby!

Some examples of optional materials from around the home may include: a bucket (drum), paper plates (cymbals or tambourine), jar of rice/pasta (shaker), small blanket or scarf, etc.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Sources
We will read from different children's books each week. The books will range from classics such as "The Pout Pout Fish" to musical story books such as "Wild Symphony". All of the books used in this class will be age appropriate and will exclude any questionable or controversial topics.
