This is a four-day class that starts with Tropical Waves a Precursor to Catastrophic Hurricanes class to introduce tropical waves and how they may transform into full scale hurricanes. It also delves into the tropical climatology of the Atlantic basin and explains the large scale weather features that impact hurricane develop during the tropical season. The learning goals of this class is to dig deeper into tropical wave formation, movement, and development into major hurricanes. This class will also look at the different products that come from the National Hurricane Center (NHC). Day 1: Tropical wave formation and development Day 2: Tropical wave and hurricane development Day 3: Tropical climatology in the Atlantic Basin and NHC products Day 4: Storm surge and Hurricane Hunters material The only homework will be to read the precursor word documents on vocabulary that will be used in the course. The desire of the teacher is to engage the student with questions and that they are prepared to ask questions and engage with the material. Lastly, the teaching style will be lecture via Power point with class interaction to open up the material to deeper understanding for the student.
