2-4 hours per week. Opportunities to continue experiencing class content are offered and vary according to the learner and their goals. The suggested activities will be on your own or the opportunity to continue scheduling personalized lessons. As with any subject, the benefits of personal performance practice such as: improved skill development, increased confidence, and the ability to take on new and greater challenges. We will use the tools from the class to set realistic goals and support personal emotional and task progress feedback.
Assessment
In-class assessment: The teacher will observe, question, and seek to understand general music knowledge, musical selections, and performance techniques related to the trombone and be an active guide in the learners' skill development toward mastery of independent, efficient playing and decision-making. Post-class assessment: Before the class ends, we will spend 2 -3 minutes on the go-forward plan for skill development and areas to focus on. The evaluation tools will include: standard trombone playing for technique and skill development practice tracker (adopted from the personal teacher-created resource, "Your Personal Practice Planner."

Learn music through performance on the trombone. Classes are tailored to learner interests and focus will be driven on a variety of genres appropriate to the study of trombone and matching learner interests. 

Private lessons are the ultimate, personalized class where we can focus on specific learner development, questions, and interests. Time will be dedicated to partnering with the learner as they develop their interests, style, and exploration of the trombone.

Sample topics in a private lesson format include:

- instrument performance basics: posture, holding the instrument, producing a sound, finding the notes on the slide
- breathing for the trombone
- buzzing for the trombone
- articulation, tonguing, attacks
- combining skills: playing legato and playing staccato
- technical right-hand slide technique
- use of a trigger horn
- reading music like a trombone player: treble and bass clef, lead sheets
- performing a variety of music examples that deliberately develop master skills for application to learner-preferred music
- active listening and ear training
- specific goal development (audition and competition preparation)

The teacher will ensure the learner leaves lessons with a:
          ~ Goal check-in and adjust
          ~ Go forward plan

All activities meet the National Standards for Music Education criteria for performing and responding.

No experience is required. This class is tailored to the learner, their goals, and experience.

To effectively participate in this class, learners will need:
     - Trombone
     - Carl Fischer 32 Etudes for Trombone available from 
     - Sigmund Herring 40 Progressive Etudes for Trombone
     - Rochut Melodies Etudes for Trombone
     - ABRSM Syllabus for Trombone selected pieces from List A, B, and C
     - Exercises and Etudes for the Jazz Instrumentalist (Bass clef edition)
     - Teacher-created resources to be provided in classroom posts
