In this ongoing class, students explore a new country in Oceania each week. We learn about the country's location, the capital city, flag, food, landmarks, animals, and other interesting facts. Below is a breakdown of our meeting schedule. Please note that it is subject to change depending on students' needs and interests. Week of 12/31: New Zealand Week of 01/07: Fiji Week of 01/14: Papua New Guinea Week of 01/21: Kiribati Week of 01/28: Vanuatu Week of 02/04: Samoa Week of 02/11: French Polynesia Week of 02/18: Solomon Islands Week of 02/25: Tuvalu Week of 03/03: Palau Week of 03/10: Micronesia This class is ongoing, so students can join and go as they please. It is very interactive, with opportunities given for students to ask questions throughout the lesson. A one-page worksheet will be posted for each class. Students may begin working on it as we go through the lesson together or complete it at home. We will play a quick review game after each lesson if we have extra time left. See you soon!
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of the geography of Oceania. Each week, they will be able to:
- Locate week's country on the world map and know its bordering countries.
- Describe some of the physical features of the country.
- Describe the symbolism of country flags.
- Share basic facts about the country. Example: Languages, food, animals, and more.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Blooket or Gimkit is used to review the lesson at the end of each class if we have some more time. Students do not require an account to be able to participate in the game. A link is sent into the chat box for them to join in the game. Sometimes, I utilize Youtube videos during class via screen share. YouTube links posted in the classroom for further studies are all embedded. Learners do not need to click on any external links.

My expertise lies in the Social Sciences, so I am excited to teach Social Studies related courses. I hold a BA and an MPhil in Sociology and currently pursuing a graduate degree in Education. I enjoy learning and teaching about countries, and the elements of their cultures. In this class, lessons do not go in depth into specific details about tribes and their practices.
