Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 3
Class structure: All students will be muted and called upon, one at a time, so that they can ask their question(s). Please limit your questions to two questions per student so that all students can participate. Please be patient as each child has their turn as learners get their chance to interact with a (retired) real-life, locomotive engineer. Engineer Chris will not be presenting learning content or teaching any material. Engineer Chris will spend 20 minutes answering student questions. The class will conclude with the virtual story. This virtual story will be read via a YouTube video. I will share my screen with the learners so that they can see and hear the story being read to them. Please post the questions that you have in the classroom prior to class. We have found this is helpful for the fluidity of the course.

In this class, students will learn some facts about trains by asking any questions they have for Engineer Chris. Once all students have asked their questions for Engineer Chris the students will listen to the story “Freight Train”, read by Mrs. Clark’s Reading YouTube channel. What does a freight train do? What makes the train run? What is the engineer's job? What does the conductor do? What products do they haul? These may be some of your questions for Engineer Chris.

Parental Guidance
The YouTube video that will be used at the end of the class does not require the parent to log onto YouTube. I will be sharing my screen so that the learner can see and hear the train book being read.

Teacher expertise and credentials
My husband is a real-life locomotive engineer, though now has retired, with over 20 years of experience running trains. My kids and many others around the world love trains and would love the opportunity to speak to an engineer. My expertise in elementary education, helps me to teach about trains and having a guest speaker in the field, compliments the class.
