The topic sentence is the directing sentence in the paragraph. All of the other sentences must work for the good of the topic sentence and supply adequate information to complete the paragraph. First, we will go over what a paragraph must contain. Then, we will define what a topic sentence is and what it must consist of. The placement of that sentence will be discussed. We will see several examples of paragraphs which I have created and decide which sentence is the topic sentence and if the other detail or supporting sentences should be included in the paragraph. We will also look at the placement of detail and concluding sentence. We will rewrite a paragraph as a class to make the paragraph stronger and improve it. I teach in a relaxed manner. Prior knowledge: Your student should be able to read at a level appropriate for their age level and be able to easily write a complete sentence. Class rules: We mute so we do not talk over each other, we are kind and respectful to everyone, and if we have a question or a comment, we raise our hands. As per the Outschool rules, the camera must be turned on so I may verify the learner.
