Learning Goals
In this class tappers will get started with a warm-up introducing basic standing still steps such as sounds made with toes, ball toes, heels, toe and heel tips. Learners will be taught fundamental tap dance steps such as shuffles, flaps, ball changes, cramp rolls etc. We will also cover essential traveling tap steps such as buffalos and drawbacks for example.
Tap dancing helps dancers with their rhythm, which then carries over to help them with other styles of dance as well. Syncopation: A lot of tap dances involve practicing syncopation. Coordination and balance: These important aspects of dance will be practiced with a variety of tap steps and movements.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is "Ms. Toni" and I have been teaching dance and drama for over 20 years. I attended a SUNY college and graduated with a BA in drama studies. From there I went on to open and run my own dance studio for 13 years. I love to teach children and have had a passion for teaching for as long as I can remember. I currently teach ages 18 months to Adult in a variety of different styles such as tap, ballet, jazz, hip-hop, theatrical dance, kickline, and cheer. Currently I also run a program at 3 local libraries for parents of children ages 18 mo- 2 1/2 an intro to dance and movement. When teaching I focus on what makes learning the steps and material fun for my students. Dancing and acting are such great, healthy ways of exploring our imaginations and using our bodies to express emotion. I teach because I love watching children gain confidence and self esteem. I have 2 children ages 2 and 6 who LOVE to dance as well.
