Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 7
This class uses word problems to give students an overview of the Titanic, one of the most famous ships in history. Students will be given numerical facts about different aspects of the ship and its voyage and then be asked to use the data to solve a variety of word problems. The problems use a many different math skills including all four basic operations and are most suited for grades 4-8. We will be working through them together in class; so students will have ample opportunity to hone their existing skills and get clarification on anything with which they need assistance.

We will begin week 1 with a brief introduction of the Titanic including what it was and how it sank. We will then cover facts about the ship itself and the supplies it was carrying.

Week 2 will focus on the people on board and the sinking. At the conclusion of the class, students will have completed a total of 32 different word problems and have an expanded knowledge of the Titanic.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi, I'm Teacher Tricia, and I'm so happy to be here on Outschool with you. I teach classes in a variety of subjects including language arts, literature, history, and life skills. As a homeschool mom of two kiddos, I have experience teaching in many different subjects and with ages ranging from early elementary through middle school. I also currently teach at a local co-op where classes are held on a once a week basis in a format very similar to that of Outschool except that I am actually in the same room as my students. In addition I attended Purdue University with a major in Elementary education and received plenty of classroom experience during my time there. I believe education should be a life-long endeavor, and I strive to learn something new everyday. It is my firm belief that when information is given in a fun and interesting way, students are much more likely to find the learning process enjoyable and to remember their classes and the subjects taught far into the future. I also ensure that each of my classes meets the needs of learners of all types. By presenting materials in many different ways and formats, I hope to be able to connect with each and every learner. I am always available if you have questions. I look forward to teaching and learning with you.
