Learn how to animate your puppet or toys with these tips for puppet operation. Puppetry is the art of giving voice and movement to inanimate objects. Please note: we will NOT create a puppet in this course thus I require you to bring along a puppet or plush toy. We will bring these objects to life in class together through shared storytelling. In this course, you will learn some useful puppetry skills that bring extra magic to your stories and free play. We will learn tips for puppet operation, considering details of MOUTH/SPEECH, EYES/FOCUS, PERSONALITY/EMOTIONS & STAGING. A complimentary document titled "Tips for Operating Puppets" will be offered to enrolled students and you may want to prepare paper and a writing tool for your own class notes.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their puppetry skills.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree in Education from Portland State University
Making smiles and laughter is my favorite thing to do. I enjoy working with children who are invested in their learning and committed to kindness.
Growing up I was quick to tell stories with puppets, toys, siblings, music, and comedy. As an adult I have found a way to combine all this fun by being a remote, online teacher! My classes are joyous, interactive, expressive, and energetic.
My specialties lie in public speaking, singing, performance, music, ESL, and literacy. I have four years experience as an elementary school classroom teacher. I am currently a music coach and lead singer of a Portland, Oregon-based Blondie tribute band, Glass of Hearts. I acquired my Masters Degree of Education from Portland State University. I am an active and enthusiastic member of the Portland Reading Council & the Oregon State Literacy Association.
+ Costumes are highly encouraged for ANY class.
Current course offerings include:
