Class Experience

In this class students will develop skills of free writing. With practice of free writing, skills of developing sentence structure, exploring and communicating ideas, and putting ideas from head to pen will be developed. Often times students struggle with writing because this skill is not practiced. Through regular practice, students will explore written communication using a variety of inspiration provided in class. Students will choose topics of interest to explore based on writing prompts, realia and pictures. Discussion will be held in the beginning of class to stimulate ideas, thoughts and phrases. Students will then write for 10-15 minutes. 10 minutes will be used to discuss and share thoughts, feelings, struggles and tips.

Learning Goals

Students will improve their writing skills through practice. Grammar, punctuation, spelling and structure will be taught in natural ways as needed, though not focused on in every lesson. The focus will be on writing and building the flow from head to pen. As students gain confidence in writing their ideas, writing skills will be developed.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello and welcome to my classroom. I am excited to help you develop your child's learning through engaging and interactive activities. With 10 years of teaching experience in grades K-6, I employ different strategies to engage students in their learning. I have a Bachelors in Education with a Major in Elementary Education and Minor in Math and Science. I have a Masters degree in English for Students of Other Languages.

One of my passions is traveling. This brings global experience to share ideas with my students and support learning about the world around them. Children learn best when supported to discover and challenge their understanding. I will bring many interests and hobbies to the classroom to teach students about gardening, farming, knitting and art. We will use core learning concepts to apply to real life experiences through these activities.

In my classroom, my lessons reflect my variety of interests. I expect students to be attentive listeners and contributors to their learning. Students will be muted and unmuted for appropriate activities. This will ensure all students in the classroom hear necessary instructions and have appropriate learning conversations. Please be respectful of each other's learning and come to class clothed, on time and with required materials. Use of video/audio is encouraged to interact in the classroom. Please contact me before class to confirm your son or daughter's attendance if video is not used. Through a supportive classroom, we will discover ideas and concepts together.

This is an exciting opportunity to learn and interact with students from many different places. As we build community, we develop skills and connections to bring us together. I look forward to seeing you in the classroom

From, Teacher Brittany
