What's included

24 live meetings
12 in-class hours
Homework
1-2 hours per week. I will be using the curriculum, Takeoff, offered by IXL learning to guide instruction as well as my own materials and approaches. Each week I will provide worksheets that students will use in class for independent practice and then students have the option to complete the worksheets after class and submit to me to grade. I require all students to submit work by Friday, for a timely response.
Letter Grade
Due to the various types of learners that are in each class, grades are offered per request. If you would like your student to receive a grade please let me know when you sign up for the class. I offer letter grades every 12 weeks along with a summary of your child's academic strengths and areas of concern.
Certificate of Completion
Assessments are offered at the end of units for students to assess their knowledge. Assessments are take-home assignments and are not done in class and are optional. They are put in the classroom at the end of every unit. All assignments and assessments are gladly graded and corrected if submitted by Friday of each week.

Class Experience

US Grade 3
Beginner Level
This class meets two times a week and encompasses a full curriculum if taken from August to June. Each week, students will learn a new skill and practice worksheets will be given for added practice after class. Designed specifically for third-graders, this class will help students master key math concepts and skills. Class size is limited to ensure there is plenty of interaction and meaningful feedback for each learner.

Each week, students will receive worksheets This class will incorporate hands-on activities, group discussions, and games to make learning engaging and fun.

The curriculum I will be using is Eureka math and my own teacher created materials, since I believe no one program meets the needs of all students and learning styles. Each week I will introduce the concept and we will use our whiteboard and/or paper as I teach and students demonstrate their understanding of the skill. I try to ask questions and have students discuss the concept so that they have a deep understanding.

Students will be provided videos in the classroom to check their work and understand why they made any mistakes or slight miscalculations. Students learn a lot by checking their own work and seeing what their strengths and weaknesses lay. Students are always able to contact me if they need help or assistance with a worksheet or concept.

EXPERIENCE
At the beginning of class we will always start with a community building activity, so that students get to interact with each other, have fun and get ready to learn. Next we will tackle the math topic of the week. Each lesson begins with a "Watch and Learn" activity where I will model the skill for the lesson. Next we will do the skill together and then students will have a chance to do the skill independently during class. During this time I will give feedback and correct any misunderstandings or extend their learning if they understand the concept.

 MATERIALS and EXTRA PRACTICE
Students MUST have a small handheld whiteboard and access to a printer to fully participate in class. Parents will also receive additional optional activities their child can do at home to extend their learning and check their progress. Students should also have a small pencil box with common supplies such as pencils, erasers to use during class. I will provide the Eureka math worksheets needed each week, so you can have them printed and ready to go before class.
I also use Google Forms for students to answer questions electronically and where they will get immediate feedback. I utilize these forms at the end of class to check for understanding and for students to quickly assess their own knowledge. We will also being using Kahoot to play games during and after class. Students do not need a login for either digital resource.
I am a former math interventionist with a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Design. Currently, I focus on grades first through fourth grade classes in order to ensure high quality instruction as well as materials. I aim to foster a relationship with my students and their families to make certain all my students are successful. I love teaching on Outschool and love that I am able to focus on the aspects of teaching that I love, which are math and curriculum design.
For the safety and privacy of all learners who attend, please be aware that class recordings will not be shared. However, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. I am always happy to provide updates on your learner's progress and performance during class. Students will also have access to all worksheets and can email me for any clarification on subject matter.

Welcome! My name is Debbie and I am a certified teacher with a Bachelors of Science in Education with a concentration in the visual arts. I also hold Masters in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on math and science. I have been lucky enough throughout my career to have taught grades K through 6 and be a math and reading interventionist. Math is one of my favorite subjects to teach and I love thinking of creative ways to get students to love it too and gain confidence.

I primarily teach math classes most popular class is my 1:1 math tutoring class, but I have expanded my classes recently to include art classes as well as thematic science classes for first, second, third and fourth grades.
