Think “Candy Bars” When Dividing in 4th and 5th Grade Math!
Class experience
US Grade 4 - 5
A division algorithm known as "Partial Quotients," a.k.a the "Candy Bar Method" so named by me, will be presented that will draw on a student's understanding of mulitplication by powers of 10, a simple concept all students can quickly understand. It will be reviewed in this class. This concept, along with mulitplication fact fluency, will propel the student towards understanding, effiency and accuracy with division using a standard algorithm for long division. Teaching will be accomplished...
The goal of this class is to foster computational competency with an algorithm for division which will facilitate understanding, efficiency and accuracy when dividing using a standard algorithm.
Homework Offered
Homework will not be assigned, but the student will be encouraged to create and solve their own division problems using the concepts covered in this class. Math takes practice, and the more a student practices, the more confident a student becomes!0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
No formal assessment will be given, but a concluding problem will be given for students to solve to demonstrate a level of mastery.Grades Offered
