Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 6
Daring to enter the dark will shed light on many little known gods that humanity has been afraid to speak of for generations. This class closely follows Hesiod's Theogony, specifically lines 124-410, ending with "The Hymn to Hecate" goddess of witchcraft. Class will first begin with a short meet-and-greet. Once acquainted, we will delve into a dramatic telling of Hesiod's Theogony with a little bit of information from Apollodorus sprinkled in. The story will be brought to life through imagery, and as a story teller, my goal will be to use my theatrical and voice-artist background to make the tale memorable. Throughout, students will be encouraged to ask questions and will also be posed questions to test their listening and comprehension skills. Specifically, we will learn about the children of Erebus (Darkness) and Nyx (Night), the children of Pontus and Gaia, Nereus and Doris, Electra and Thaumas, Phorys and Ceto, Typhon and Echidna, and many more.
